DARKFEATHER FREEDMAN:
Darkfeather Freedman: is part Native American Indian from the Blackfoot Tribe. Born in 1953 and has lived in MI all his life where he learned to hunt and fish on his own. It was a passion for him to bring home wild game and not only hunt it but to process and cook it. While hunting along the shores of Saginaw Bay he found a decoy that was carved by Ben Schmidt.
He didn't know who carved the decoy at the time but liked the style and thought that he could carve some decoys for himself. Up until that time he was just pass shooting or would jump the ducks off the water and then shoot them. So about 30 years ago he started his venture in carving decoys for his hunting rig.
Crude but functional decoys he started out with and never being satisfied with his work. Always wanting to do better and make changes to inhance his work. Darkfeather only carved for himself and an occasional decoy for a friend or family member until he lost his construction job. He has also carved rocking horses, carousel horses, clowns, birds, and a full size lion in progress. He is self taught in carving and painting.

Before this he didn't brand or sign the decoys until he found out that someone had sold some of his older decoys for Ben Schmidt's. ( About a dozen of his old ones that he used for hunting were stolen many years ago). Not many decoys will have this brand! Very Rare !
